My first job out of college was as copy editor at the Biloxi (Mississippi) Sun and Daily Herald. During a conversation about local concerts with the editor of the newspaper's weekend entertainment magazine, Marquee, he asked me to write a review of the upcoming Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band concert. The week after he published that review, the editor assigned me to do an interview with Charlie Daniels. Suddenly, I was the Marquee's music critic. It also began a new line of moonlighting the next few years in Biloxi and Oklahoma City, working full-time as a newspaper copy editor while on the side covering the local and national music scene. Writing about arts and entertainment has continued to be a major artery of my work, especially with the launch of Shakespeareances.com in 2011.
